Hi - I'm Eli, a undergraduate student at Yale University studying Molecular Biology and English. For the last three years, I've accumulated a variety of tutoring experience, working with young children and high school students giving particular emphasis to mathematics and the sciences. However, I'm also an award winning writer, recognized by the Scholastic Arts & Writing Committee and the Yale English Department as an Orlo Nominee. Additionally, I spent two years teaching an intensive and academically diverse test preparation class to high schoolers, with subjects ranging from Evolutionary Biology to Essay Writing. I'm familiar with nearly a dozen of the Advanced Placement Exams, on which I exclusively scored 5s, as well as with the SAT, on which I received an 800 in Math, an 800 in Reading, and scored in the 95th percentile in Writing.
At the core of both test preparation and general academic tutoring is the cultivation of fundamental understanding of the material - to be able to deconstruct the how and why so that comprehension expands beyond rote memorization and mechanical iterations. As someone who loves learning, I believe the best way to do go about this, whether a student is 8 or 18, is to excite and engage students so that they not only can, but want to, explore and master the material.
Regarding exams, I additionally emphasize familiarization with the test itself, whether the AP or the SAT: the scope of testable material, the ins and outs of the scoring process, time limits and strategies for maximizing available resources. This allows students to utilize their understanding of the subject matter in the most efficient way possible and achieve their test-taking goals.
