Seasoned English, Math, GED, and Elementary Education Tutor

I am an experienced tutor, having been an educator for over 25 years. My approach is kind, but also clear and direct. Over the last few years I have taught basic mathematics, pre-algebra, and geometry. I have also taught GED preparation classes. As a published author, I am also skilled at writing, and have a writer's command of grammar and syntax which I love to share with my students. I taught English as a Second Language for ten years in the Adult Division of the Los Angeles Unified School District. I have taught reading to many students, including slow learners. In addition, my time in other jobs working with the elderly and infirm at convalescent homes has taught me to have great patience and compassion for all of my students. I relate well to children, teens, and adults. I am very attentive to the needs of each student.

Algebra 1

I have taught algebra for three years. I know the different aspect of this subjects including functions, coordinate systems, graphs, real numbers, irrational numbers, square root, cube root, etc.

American History

I have always been interested in American History. I am aware of significant dates, the Judicial System, the Congress, and the Presidency. I have read many books about this subject.

Grammar

I have taught grammar for five years, and I am aware of its proper usage. I am aware of proper sentence formation, verbs, nouns, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, conjugations, etc.

Geometry

I have taught geometry for three years and am aware of its fundamental principles.

Prealgebra

I have taught pre-algebra for five years and am aware of its principles which include integers, order of operation, negative numbers, absolute value, exponents and roots, etc.

Reading

I have taught individuals who have difficulty with reading, and I have improved their reading. I am a very patient person, as well as having enthusiasm about learning. I am well aware of grammar and sentence structure.

Writing

I have taught writing for five years. I am aware that writing must be organized and on topic. The writer must decide who their audience is, and needs to learn how to discover the structural problems in their essay. I am skilled at assessing structural and grammar problems. I have written a number of books myself.

English

I have taught English for five years. The student should be aware of the need for the essentials of sentence structure and grammar. I am skilled at assessing sentence structure and grammatical problems.

ESL/ESOL

I taught E.S.L. for 10 years to adults. One of my supervisor said that she said she never saw such enthusiasm in students. She also said that I got the students to speak in English in a safe environment.

GED

I taught GED preparation for six years in the the Adult Division of the Los Angeles Unified School District. I am aware of the all the principles of algebra, geometry, writing, and reading. I am dedicated to achieving a passing grade on the GED test for the people I tutor.

Art History

I have an M.F.A. degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. I majored in painting and minored in art history. I have always been interested in art history, and continue to read books about this subject. I am interested in art and sculpture around the world and from each century.

Elementary Math

I am aware of the principles of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, the use of decimals, ratio and proportion, percent applications, etc. I have taught this subject for five years. I am an enthusiastic teacher!

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a substitute teacher for five and a half year in K - 6, and I taught 5th and 6th grade for three years.

Painting

I majored in Painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. I also attended the Arts Students League in Manhattan and won the Maude Brandon Scholarship for realistic painting. My painting style is spiritual and in some way like Chagall. I have shown in many galleries.

Social Studies

I taught Social Studies in a Middle School for three year. My father was a politician, and he gave me an appreciation of the importance of this subject. It was my favorite subject in Junior High and High School.
