I love literature and I love to write. These passions have led me to pursue graduate education and this fall I will begin doctoral studies at Claremont. I have taught undergrads at UC Davis, including one-on-one help with essays. My classes have included strategies for picking a thesis topic and developing an argument and my tutoring sessions include reviewing sentence structure and logical progression through the essay. I have helped students for whom English is a second language. I helped a special needs student at American Jewish University whose professor deemed his writing ungradable, bringing him, over the course of a semester, to B-level work. Sharing my joy of writing with students is profoundly satisfying, and I look forward to working with you!

Vocabulary

As a graduate student, I have a good working vocabulary. I read a wide range of academic articles, which contributes to my core vocabulary. Knowledge of Greek and Latin roots (as well as French) expands my repertoire further.

Phonics

I have helped children connect letters to the sounds these letters represent in English. This work work is very similar to my own effort to learn Hebrew, which uses a different alphabet. The 'decoding' of symbols into sounds (phonemes) takes practice and patience, but can be enhanced with games and pictures. My experience learning and teaching foreign languages can brought to my teaching of reading English through phonics.

Study Skills

I have two master's degrees, with high gpa's earned in each one: proof that I am able to organize my work and do well. My coursework has varied from translation classes that require the memorization of grammar and vocabulary to subject classes that require large amounts of reading, research and writing. I know how to read efficiently, take notes and organize source material for my essays. I am well qualified to teach these techniques because I actively use them everyday.

You can buy one of our standard 5, 10 or 15% packages or customize your own package based on how much tutoring you need. The credit you purchase can be used towards any tutor at any time and does not expire. If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
