Hey! My name is Joaquin and I'm a recent graduate from California State University, Long Beach. I earned a B.S. in Biology, with an option in Zoology and a minor Chemistry. During my tenure as a student, I became a MESA tutor. With MESA, I learned how to teach high school and middle school kids concepts in mathematics, engineering, and science. I learned how to interact with them on a one-on-one basis and a group basis. I worked for MESA for 3 years, and in those valuable years I've seen a lot of young, potential talent develop. Students who practice and spend the necessary hours to improve areas of weakness, improve and gain confidence, thus realizing their true potential. As a tutor, I feel my teaching style reflects this. I put a lot of emphasis on exploiting the area of weakness and correcting the mistakes with the student. After all, everybody tends to learn from their mistakes. But I also emphasize that the student must be willing to spend the time to practice and practice until they feel they acquired the skill. As I became a private tutor for adults in college, I would emphasize to my clients that they needed to spend many hours studying until they acquired the skill. I made sure they understand that I am here to assist and help but I cannot give answers to their assignments. They must put the effort and energy into it. Once they do so, then it is easier for the student and myself to fix the area of weakness.
