I taught geography, mostly physical geography for five straight years at two community colleges in the Chicago suburbs of Illinois. My dream however is to teach my subject matter in California, where everything discussed in Earth Science and Geography can be seen within a two hour drive (on the weekends of course when one is not stuck in traffic).
While I love the nature, earth science, and environmental science of some of the "crown jewels" of the intermountain west (i.e., Yellowstone, etc.) I am just blown away that one can have so much variety of geological formations, natural areas, climate types, and ecoregions, in five counties that also contain 17 million people.
I want to teach the principles of geography and Earth Science using examples of places throughout Southern California. In my free time I love exploring everything from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Antelope Valley, and from the canyons of Topanga to the Laguna Hills of South Ocean Orange County. I believe it is my job to integrate all of this into my lesson plans and teaching.
