I have studied many things over the years and through my professional and scholastic experiences, have developed strong tutoring skills. I grew up in Iowa, where we were blessed with an exceptional public education system. As a youth, I studied violin for ten years; in high school, I was on the state championship debate team, an activity that built numerous, invaluable skills; in my early twenties, I ran a small restaurant; later, I studied acting and literature at the University of Iowa where I was the two-time recipient of the Nadine Haysmith scholarship; I also supplemented my income by doing peer tutoring. I have also spend several summers as the Youth Director of nature camp in northern Minnesota; this is where I discovered my natural aptitude and real affinity for working with young people, connecting with them, and developing mutual respect. I was a National Merit Finalist, and my SAT and ACT scores were in at least the 98th percentile in both math and verbal. I have an exceptional grasp of proof logic, spatial mathematics such as geometry and trigonometry, and vocabulary and rhetoric. I look forward to the opportunity to help share my love of learning with your child.
