Performer by passion; professor and psychologist by profession mean that I have a great deal of experience and education in several different discipline. I hold an AA in Television Production and a Bachelors of Science in Theater Education and English. These are my primary interests, of course. However, I took my Masters in Applied Social Sciences with cognates in Public Administration and Education Leadership and Counseling to demonstrate to other executives and administrators that I am equipped to not only teach but also I can hire, supervise and manage small, medium and large budget projects and organizations. As a social psychologist, having earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Psychology with a minor cognate in Organizational Industrial Psychology-specific to Media, i.e. Theater, Radio, TV, Film and Internet-I examine first the social influences: politics, education, religion, environment, social status and issues, arts and entertainment when gathering a clients bio-psycho-social and educational information for an adequate assessment of the client and their needs for tutoring or therapy. I like using the student's strengths, while recognizing weaknesses, to help them achieve their academic goals.
I have enjoyed teaching opportunities for a long time and have taught many subjects in a variety of levels from kindergarten through graduate school. In the district where I am faculty I have one of the highest equivalencies than any other instructor with competencies in subject area as diverse as Language Arts, Reading, Theater, Psychology, and other interdisciplinary social sciences, such as Religion, Sociology, Public Administration, Politics, Social Studies, Media, History, Arts and Entertainment.
In the past I have used a portfolio approach to grading which I found students appreciated as they watched their development and maturation in given areas. My philosophy of education is founded on a humanistic based, student centered and result focused approach which draws upon the learner’s knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve mastery, empowerment, and confidence. The essentials necessary to face the challenges in any subject area or discipline.
I am a teacher as well as a Social Psychologist who believe that inspiration multiplied by motivation divided by determination, minus procrastination equals transformation. This is the elongated equation of the simple addition problem presented above. It is my job to spark the motivation that is part of the basis for your scholastic and kinesthetic transformation.
My rates for the quality of service are considered reasonable, however, I am concerned more with the learning process and results than making lots of money tutoring, therefore, and I offer a sliding scale based on ambition and financial need.
