Hi everyone!

Are you looking for a writing/English tutor, or a music teacher? If so, I’d be the perfect fit for you!

I am a professional singer and songwriter with 12 years of experience in songwriting, singing, performing and playing guitar. I have 5 years of vocal training, and 13 years of training in piano and violin. I’ve toured across the U.S. and performed in such venues as The Shrine in L.A. and Lincoln Center in NYC. An avid music lover, I also have extensive experience in music theory, orchestra, private lessons and chamber ensembles!

In 2007, I graduated magna cum laude from New York University, with a B.A. in Individualized Study, concentration in International Relations and Immigration Studies! My time there took me to Geneva, Switzerland and the University of Michigan, where I had hands-on studies and perfected my skill in writing. I also achieved ACTFL Advanced proficiency in French.

My love for writing continued after college! For 3 years, I was a reporter at The Record and Herald News, two daily newspapers in New Jersey. In my short time there, I received 2nd place for the Robert H. Kelly Award for first-year reporters, spearheaded a shopping blog, and hosted a video series titled, “Soundcheck with Alfa Garcia.”

I was born in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. when I was just 5 years old. As a result, I know the challenges non-native speakers can have in writing, speaking and reading English. With my personal experience and encouragement, I can be a big help to those who face this challenge!

If you work with me, you’ll find that my love for writing and music are contagious. I believe students can learn better when they have help from a teacher who is passionate about the subjects.

Other interests I have include running, frisbee, reading and cooking. I also spend a lot of time writing in a personal journal and recently taught myself how to play the ukulele.
