Having an MA in Psychology has allowed me to gain better insight and understanding into my students' roadblocks to success.

I have had experience with collaborative problem solving, to prevent homework meltdowns, and behavior modification to create good homework habits. Many times it is the frustration a student experiences when they do not understand a concept that causes them to shut down; I enjoy breaking concepts down and making learning interactive.

I have experience with students who have Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Specific Learning Disability, Processing Disorders, Hard of Hearing, Blindness, and are in gifted or Advanced classes.

I worked with-in the Special Ed department of Los Angeles Unified School District for thirteen years: four of those years in an elementary school, one year in a middle school, and eight years in a high school. Before that, I spent three years in various after school tutoring programs and working with special needs children in their home.

One of my strengths is knowing how to break down complex subjects into simple ideas. I enjoy hands on projects and individualize lessons for a successful and creative learning experience.

Most of all, I love what I do and watching a student grow. I believe parent feedback is vital to the tutoring process.

Elementary (K-6th)

I worked in the special education department of LAUSD for 13 years. Five of those years were in an elementary school. I lead small groups in math, science, English, vocabulary, and helped students with open court assignments. I also assisted in coordinating an after school mentoring program.

Study Skills

During my 13 years with the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have: taught students how to read, then reread and take notes and outlines,skim, have used the KWL chart, worked with time management issues, helped plan organizers, explore reasons for procrastination, develop healthy homework habits, and explore ways to help self motivate. Religion

I have taken many theology classes in my Graduate program from a Christian perspective. I have also taken classes in undergrad in World Religions, Sociology, Cultural Psychology, Art History, and World Civilization were we discussed major world religions. I am familiar with Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism, and have a basic understanding of Islam.

College Counseling

I have a MA in Clinical Psychology. I have counseled many High School students over the years on what they are looking for in a college (experience, area, studies). I have proofread many university essays, helping students to showcase the unique qualities they have to offer in a way that will stand out.

Autism

I have worked in the special ed department of LAUSD for 13 years. During that time, I have had the opportunity to work with many students with Autism and their one-to-one assistants. I have also worked in a classroom serving autistic students for a summer. Outside of the school district I worked 2 years with an boy diagnosed with Autism. I worked as a care assistant and tutor: Helping with homework, meal times, driving to karate, supervising play dates, and parties.
