Having an MA in Clinical Psychology has allowed me to gain better insight and understanding into my student's roadblocks to success.
I have had experience with collaborative problem solving, to prevent homework meltdowns, and behavior modification to create good homework habits. Many times, it is the frustration a student experiences when they do not understand a concept that causes them to shut down; I enjoy breaking concepts into parts and making learning interactive.
I have experience with students who have Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Specific Learning Disability, Processing Disorders, Hard of Hearing, Blindness, and are in Gifted or Advanced classes.
I worked with-in the Special Ed department of Los Angeles Unified School District for thirteen years: four of those years in an elementary school, one year in a middle school, and eight years in a high school. Before that, I spent three years in various after school tutoring programs and working with special needs children in their home.
One of my strengths is knowing how to pull apart complex subjects into simple ideas. I enjoy hands on projects and individualize lessons for a successful and creative learning experience.
Most of all, I love what I do and watching a student grow. I believe parent feedback is vital to the tutoring process.
