On my way to a lesson on Saturday morning, I listened to Adele’s monster hit “Rolling In the Deep” on the radio. I was transfixed, as I always am by this song - a heart-rending dirge mourning the loss of what could have been and Adele’s staggeringly powerful voice seems to carry it straight into the soul of the listener.
As the song ended, the DJ came on, incredulously reporting that Adele had signed up for “the last thing you’d ever imagine she’d need” - singing lessons. I was struck into stillness by this, sitting in my parked car outside my student’s home, unable to understand his confusion...
