I'm a passionate, creative, and friendly music professional with many years of experience in music/arts education with diverse populations. In addition to having a great deal of background in writing and creativity, I have also personally studied philosophy and theology and received straight A's in anatomy & physiology courses. While I am available to tutor and teach a number of subjects, my favorite is music. My parents tell the story of how as an infant I would stand up in my crib and conduct the music on the radio, so it seems I was always in love with music.
I also have an deep interest in the pronunciation of language - both English and other. I have extensive training in Voice/Speech, Voice-Over, Dialects, and the correct pronunciation of Italian, German, and English. I am very well-versed in the International Phonetic Alphabet that standardizes the way that pronunciation of language is communicated across language-barriers. I'd be more than happy to help you with your oral skills, grammar, and written English, and if you like, even teach you IPA.
My relationship with powerful teachers has been the most powerful inspiration through all my experience and training. I remember listening with rapt attention as an 8 year old to my voice teacher give an art song recital in French. Rewinding Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" over and over on my Walkman, trying to get those runs. Admiring the seeming effortlessness of the Dirty Loops' searing virtuosity with my students in the Kid City jazz program. We all know too well the stories of those who were discouraged or disempowered by their teachers. All these moments leave their mark. That is why we need positive experiences associated with creativity - encouraging and liberating forces.
I have worked with people of all ages on finding, honing, and presenting their self-expression. I've been gathering people together to create and share art since I myself was a child. One such project called "What's Alive Inside" (for which I was a founding collaborator and served as Music Director, Arranger, and Pit Musician/Conductor) is an experience that encourages members of the audience and the community to access and expand their creative selves. At the moment I am teaching young musicians at the Kid City South Park young people's jazz orchestra in downtown LA. This is a group of kids from the ages of eight to eighteen of varying levels of experience and skill who all work together to enhance their understanding and articulation of music.
In 2011 I had the opportunity to co-found the educational group Artists for Positive Change to work closely with middle-school students on exploring modes and methods of creative self-expression and collaboration.
