I am a high school English teacher in Los Angeles. I am credentialed in English and soon to be credentialed in Social Studies. I have a Master of Education from UCLA. I completed my undergraduate career at the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in English with coursework in education. This was a particularly joyous occasion because I was selected to give a speech at the graduation ceremony. I am very fortunate to attend two of the nation's best schools. UC Berkeley's English department is ranked number one and UCLA's Education department is ranked in the top 10.
I have extensive tutoring experience, including working with students facing particular challenges. I have served two AmeriCorps terms. The first was through the Foster Youth Mentor Program where I worked with foster youth and prepared them for emancipation. The second year was through a program called Destination: College, where I worked with at-risk youth in Berkeley/Oakland. I have done SAT and Exit Exam tutoring. All but one of my students have passed the exit exam on their first try after working with me. I currently teach English at a local high school.
I am a firm believer in individual learning plans and treating every student on a case by case basis. I adapt my teaching styles according to each person's individual learning style. I try to achieve the greatest benefits with the least amount of "work." As cliche as it sounds, learning can and should be fun.
