As a seasoned tutor, I have experience in helping students who are behind in reading, writing and math. In my experience I have seen students reach their grade level in 20 hours or less of tutoring. I've worked with a variety of students at all different levels ranging from first grade through high school. Former students describe me as knowledgeable and persistent. I still keep in touch with my former students and they relay that certain lessons helped them remember how to answer a question on a test. For example, knowing the difference between the words “where”, “wear” and “were”. The reason I connect with students is I try several different approaches to help engage the student to learn the material being taught.
When I teach in the classroom, I do not underestimate my students and start challenging them from the start by providing them with vocabulary to help them advance as well as build their reading and writing confidence. I also spend a good amount of time encouraging those students who tend to struggle with their schoolwork. The most important thing you should know is I will not give up on your child.
By using a combination of socio-cultural and constructivist approaches to develop academic success, your child will be able to construct her or his own answers, take risks in answering questions and develop strong reading comprehension, writing, increased vocabulary plus gain an overall stronger recall of material in school.
I can come to your home, assess your child’s strengths and areas of challenge, and craft learning goals that will be tailored towards improving her or his confidence and overall retention of the material. By having a plan designed to meet the academic goals you desire from your child, I can help your child go to her or his current grade level or go beyond.
I also tutor students on the undergraduate and graduate level. My master's program required a tremendous amount of writing case studies, presentations, analysis, personal statements and research papers, so these are all areas I can assist you with.
Some of my former students have kept in touch and let me know how they are doing in school. It is rewarding to know that they are academically stronger and the extra guidance they received from tutoring has helped them overall improve academically.
I would welcome the opportunity to work with you. Please contact me with any questions you may have!
