I am a graduate of University of Southern California with a Master's Degree. I have over 20 years of experience as a classroom teacher and private tutor of students ranging in age from Kindergarten to adults. Currently, I tutor students at USC, local public and private elementary, middle and high schools and adults continuing their education.
Tutoring is a very rewarding experience. As each student is different, it's a rewarding challenge as a tutor to create a positive learning environment responsive to each student. Having taught study skills, time management and healthy habits for academic success, I share these with all of my students to encourage them to find the best tools for their own academic success.
My own education began at MIIS, Monterey Institute for International Studies.
I went on to earn both a BA and an MA in Japanese language and literature.
Shortly after completing an Advanced Japanese program in Yokohama, Japan I was hired to do translation for the Japanese government, major corporations, law firms and medical associations.
I loved being a student of Japanese and my dedication and passion put me at the top of my class at graduation. Now, I truly love teaching the language and culture, and my students say my enthusiasm is contagious!
Having taught from all of the most popular classroom textbooks from middle school to college, I have an excellent grasp of the content and goals.
As a teacher and as a tutor I have helped take remedial students from poor grades to academic success, encouraged gifted students to expand their gifts and many students who would have otherwise long before given up to continue in their studies to succeed.
In addition to Japanese I have extensive experience tutoring the ISEE, the GRE (I placed in the top 95%), the SAT and study skills and time management among many other subjects including History, Social Studies and English.
My ESL and TOEFL students have all had significant improvement in their language production, accent reduction, test performance and overall confidence in the language. My own experience as a second language learner has shaped me into a talented teacher with compassion, patience and an ability to find student's areas of strength and areas for improvement.
