I've been a one-on-one tutor for over 25 years. I've tutored English Language Arts (ELA) and elementary math privately, through WyzAnt, and in the No Child Left Behind program. Though an English specialist, I also tutor basic math, science, history, social studies and geography. I also teach adults and have tutored college students in writing, grammar, theology, and TOEFL. I've successfully coached graduate students in the vocabulary section of the Princeton Review.
I passed the CBEST (on the 1st try) with a perfect score in the English section. I've also passed the PRAXIS test on the first try, and completed the LAUSD's Artist Training Seminar, through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. This seminar prepares artists to interface with classroom teachers and students, using the VAPA Content Standards and the 4-Wheel Learning Cycle, when bringing special arts programs to LAUSD schools.
In addition to my other teaching activities, I'm also a working professional singer/actor. I was classically trained and have a BFA from California Institute of the Arts (Cal-Arts). I'm also very well versed and experienced in tutoring general music, voice, music history, and theatre.
FYI - I'm a native Angelino and come from a family of renowned teachers. My father created continuation teaching in the Los Angeles school system. My brother was named Teacher of the Year many times in his career. I proudly and happily follow in their footsteps.
