My primary goal as a tutor is to engage students with a unique and innovative learning process that will help them excel in their current academics, future schooling and furthermore, in the spectrum of life pursuits that awaits them! Paying attention to the distinct abilities of and challenges facing each student, I tailor my tutoring methods to accommodate a range of learning styles and needs. Through this adaptive approach, I believe it is possible for every individual to succeed and gain enjoyment from the subjects they are studying.
I have experience teaching in a variety of settings, including as a tutor for middle-school youth, as a mentor and leader in various school programs, and most currently as a substitute teacher for K-12 within Santa Cruz County. I received my B.A. in Art from UC-Santa Cruz, propelled toward this major by a broad background of intellectual explorations and diverse experiences.
Spanish, English and Visual Art are all subjects that I have had extensive training in and tutor up to and beyond the AP-level for middle school and high school students. With regards to Spanish, I have an in-depth understanding of both the written and spoken language, and have traveled through Latin America on more than five separate occasions, noting cultural and idiomatic differences that are useful to students trying to improve. In relation to English, I teach writing of all sorts. From literary analysis to creative writing to journalism to persuasive essays to... the notorious college essays... I offer help brainstorming and structuring, as well as tips on grammar and revisions. And finally, on the subject of Visual Art, I can help students in a range of media to expand their skill sets, push their creativity and enhance the ways in which they think, speak, write and otherwise represent their work.
In addition to tutoring these three specific subjects, I also tutor in organizational/time management skills, grant/scholarship writing and test preparation/study methods.
In all of my tutoring sessions, I aim to bring these subjects to life and invigorate students to reach for the stars!
