I am a thoughtful and caring person that wants to see students achieve their fullest potential. I do this by tailoring lessons to their needs and interests, so learning is a fun and exciting activity. Since I have a strong background in sports I have lots of energy as well as the patience and the desire to see students succeed. I make learning relevant and meaningful by teaching across the curriculum, which is making reference to other disciplines and fields of study. I use travel, imagination, drama, sports, reading, film and music as some of the ways I engage students in the learning process.
I graduated from California State University, Long Beach where I majored in physical education with a BA degree and minored in history. I completed 87 upper division units beyond graduation and have a secondary teaching credential for grades K-12, which authorizes me to teach physical education, history and literature in the state of California. During my college years I competed in swimming, cross country, and crew, so I have a strong background in sports. My teaching experience involves over 25 years in education as a full-time instructor and substitute in six different districts in southern California where I worked with students at different age levels teaching subjects such as reading, physical education, history, English, and special education. This includes coaching junior high football, basketball, and track. My other work experience has been in the following areas- apartment ownership, ocean life guarding, and retail. I like to stay healthy and fit by working out with weights three times a week and I enjoy doing long distance ocean swims at Alamitos Bay in Long Beach. I also enjoy kayaking, horse back riding, and camping.
