My name is Laura and I graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2006 with a BA in Anthropology. For two years while in CSUF I was placed in the Dean's List because I was in the top 10% of university students academically. When I graduated I received my degree Cum Laude (With Honors)and I was a member of the following Honors Societies: Golden Key International Honors Society and Lambda Alpha Honors Society.

After I received my BA from CSUF, I continued my education at the same university to get my Teaching Credential in the Social Sciences. While in the teaching credential program, I was one of the few elected to receive an internship to work at a small charter school in Santa Ana, CA. For the past seven years, I have been the Social Science Department Chair and I have taught the following subjects: World History, U.S. History, APUSH, Government, Economics, Anthropology, Mexican-American Studies, Spanish I, and Spanish II.

I am a lover of learning and teaching. I truly believe that learning needs to be interactive and interesting and that students need to be active participants in the process. When I teach any subject I like to make the information relevant to the student. Many times I have heard my students say that "they hate history" and my response is always "you do because you haven't experienced history with me."

When I teach any subject I like to involve students and I like to ask them how they would have dealt with the issue if they lived during that period of time. It is absolutely amazing how teenagers would deal with issues like the Civil War, the Great Depression, WWII, and the Civil Rights movement.

I want students to share their opinions with me and not just learn facts or dates... having students become critical thinkers and active participants on any event will greatly benefit not only their critical thinking skills but it will help them master any information they learn.... why you may ask? Well, because they became part of history themselves and you learn best when you experience an event.

If you agree with my teaching philosophy, contact me and we can learn and bring history or any other subject alive.
