I have extensive educational experience, having earned two degrees and am working on a third. I have 28 years experience practicing law which includes much researching, reading and writing. I have had a great deal of success in taking standardized tests, such as the SAT, ACT, LSAT, the Texas Bar Exam, and the National Merit exam. I was a National Merit Finalist. All my degrees have been earned with honors and I currently carry a 4.0 GPA in my Master's Degree program.
I have a love for children and youth that gives me a desire to help them succeed. My wife is a life-long teacher whom I greatly admire and have seen patiently help students succeed for years. My tutoring style will be, of course, tailored to both the student and the subject matter. I will do my best to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. Younger students will likely need more "hands on" tutoring, whereas older students will be guided by me to learn the subject matter to make it their own. I want the students not only to get the answer or master the skill, but to know and understand why or how that answer is correct or skill is necessary. I may even devise my own tests or exercises to help insure those goals are accomplished.
I want to be a friend to you and your child, but I will expect to be treated with respect as well. If I perceive that there is a problem between your child and me, for whatever reason, I will seek to discuss the matter with you as the parent or guardian. If that does not resolve the matter, I may decide to cancel any further tutoring with your child upon giving notice to you of my decision.
I have many years of both educational and professional experience in reading and writing English. I obtained good scores every time I took a standardized test, whether it was the ACT, SAT, or otherwise. I have a very good understanding of English grammar and sentence structure, as well as a good vocabulary and excellent spelling ability. I believe I can be of great assistance to students of all ages and abilities in this area.
I have had two years of theological training at Asbury Theological Seminary in which I completed courses in New Testament Greek, The book of Mark, and the minor prophets. I have taught Bible studies at several churches over the past 30 years, including the Bethel Bible Series. In high school, I completed a year study of the entire Bible as literature. Further, I have personally read the Bible many times from beginning to end.
I have over 28 years' experience as an attorney which requires me to write extensively, to read legal documents and court opinions, and to proof the work of fellow attorneys. I have written papers for publication which are listed in my resume. I have an above-average vocabulary and excellent spelling skills.
I have extensive experience in higher education, having attended one university and three graduate schools. I know how to study and study well as I have earned two degrees with honors and am on my way to earning a third with honors. I believe I can assist students of all ages in learning how to study for daily assignments as well as for exams of all types.
As a licensed attorney, writing has been my stock in trade for over 28 years. I have written hundreds of legal documents - briefs, pleadings, letters, judgments - as well as read the writings of other attorneys and judges. Further, I have had articles published which are listed in my resume. I was the Research Editor for my Law Review, a post I was given due to my meticulous attention to detail. I enjoy writing and believe I can assist others in becoming better writers.
