I am an Honors student working to get my BA in English and my teaching certificate. I have worked for private tutoring companies, as well as colleges. I have several years of tutoring experience; I have worked with grades K-12 as well as college and adult students. I love making learning fun, and I often bring my own educational materials and games to assist in the learning process. I believe that students learn at different rates and in different ways; I am very patient and adaptable. I will change my teaching methods to match your needs.

I specialize in tutoring English and ESL, but I also am skilled in SAT Prep, Science, Philosophy, Algebra, History, and more! I am very passionate about tutoring and teaching. I firmly believe learning should be a positive and enjoyable experience. I feel that one-on-one tutoring should be a different experience than the public school education. With one-on-one teaching I can adapt and change my teaching methods to suit your needs and learning methods.

I have my own transportation, and don't mind traveling. I love and get along with all kinds of pets. Additionally, I am a non-smoker. I really enjoy working with kids. My other positive qualities include: punctuality, reliability, and friendliness.

Please feel free to contact me today. I am open to negotiating my rate. Thanks for your time and consideration!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over two years of experience working with children grades K-6. I have taught elementary math, reading, writing, and vocabulary. I use various educational games, materials, and workbooks to assist in the learning process. I have taught at least ten different students various K-6 subjects.

English

English is my specialty. It's always been my favorite subject in school, and I want to help those who struggle with it. English, and communication, is vital in our society today. Without proper knowledge of it, we can't fully thrive.

ESL/ESOL

I have more than a year of experience tutoring ESL. I have taught several students of different cultures, including Korean and Latina women, at varying levels of English.

Literature

Reading and literature are a favorite pastime of mine. There is much to learn from literature.

Philosophy

Philosophy is by far the most interesting subject I have ever encountered. It isn't always easy, but I think it can be incredibly fun.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is important. I feel that with the right tricks, games, and ways of learning vocabulary can be fun to learn.

Writing

I love writing. I'm the kind of person that actually ENJOYS writing essays. I want to spread my experience and joy of writing with others.

We are very pleased — Candice seems well versed in the areas of English Writing, Vocabulary, Grammar and Reading Comprehension. On her first tutoring session, she took the time to assess my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses and told us that she would tailor a lesson plan according to what she had assessed. She uses positive reinforcements to help my daughter reach her true potentials. I am certain that she is a ve ...
