I offer mathematics tutoring for students in middle school and high school. I tutor a wide range of mathematical subjects, including Algebra and Calculus and everything in between. My tutoring methods vary depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I try to adapt my teaching style to match up with the student's learning style in order to develop a deep understanding of the material. At the same time I also try to help students develop better work habits and study skills in order to become better overall performers in the classroom. I have been told by my past students that the way I explain math, using unique analogies and real life applications, allows them to comprehend the overall big picture; once the student has a grasp on the core mathematical concepts, everything becomes much easier because not only do they know how to do the math, they also understand why it works.

I have four years of formal tutoring experience, (which doesn't include the dozens of high school classmates that I occasionally tutored privately in my spare time). For the last two years I have been tutoring LAUSD students as part of the No Child Left Behind Supplemental Education Services program. I currently attend CSULB, where I am working toward a degree in mathematics (option in Education) and from there I plan to go on to be a high school mathematics teacher.

Furthermore, I become personally invested in every student I tutor; I make it my personal mission to improve their math skills, to elevate their grades, and most importantly to spark an interest in and create a love for mathematics.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the foundation on which all of the following mathematical subjects are built upon, so it is essential that students learning it have a complete understanding of the core concepts and they are not just reading, remembering and regurgitating the information. A thorough understanding of these concepts ensures a better understanding of the mathematical subjects that follow. That is why I take careful time to ensure my students know why it works, not just that it works. Algebra 1 is the course I plan on teaching once I become a teacher because I know that understanding Algebra 1 is absolutely crucial to a students mathematical success.

0(3.7x-4.21) (answer)

Hi Jordyn,   Using the distributive property which is a(b+c) is equal to ab + bc   In this problem 0 will be a, 3.7x will be b, and 4.21 will be c   So now we have 0(3.7x - 4.21) is equal to 0 times 3.7x minus 0 times 4.21   which equals...

Great tutor that helps build confidence! — I was really worried about using a private tutor for the first time, but Jeremy is excellent. He worked with my niece and brought confidence to her testing anxiety and increased her grade points. He is flexible on meeting location and time which works with hectic schedules. I plan to continue to use him for tutoring services in the future and for reviews. You won't be sorry you went with this ...
