For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I currently use InDesign (CS5) for all my desktop publishing. But also in my professional career as an advertising art director. All print ads are done in Adobe InDesign. I am also proficient in Quark. But I find InDesign much easier to use.

Adobe Photoshop

As a graphic designer, I currently use Photoshop CS5. I've been using the program at large in conjunction with my work for nearly 20 years. I use it primarily for assembling ad comps, photography and retouching. I teach Photoshop on the college level.

Archaeology

I studied archeology in college and an amateur archeologist. I've gone on a few digs in college, most notably at CSULB where we discovered an ancient native American midden.

Art History

I have a BA in art eduction from CSULB as well as graduate work. All which involved Art History. To teach art, I had to learn every level of art history, from early Greece, to the Renaissance, to French Impressionism and to Modern Art of Europe and the United States. I am a former high school art teacher with a K-12 credential (lapsed). I do teach at the college level.

Cooking

I am a self-trained cook. However, I am a paid personal chef to several clients and friends. I studied basic cooking in high school (home economics)but my hobby is cooking. I have volunteered cooking for the homeless in Los Angeles and Chicago. I have catered a few events for friends parties. My specialty is French and Italian, as well Thai and Japanese dishes.

Drawing

I am a professional illustrator. I began drawing at age 4. I studied drawing and painting both in high school and then in college. I taught art (drawing and painting) at the the high school level. I also teach drawing at the college level.

Grammar

I am an advertising copywriter and have been writing for years. I've taught writing both in high school and at the college level. I write blogs and short stories, some of which have been published nationally.

Macintosh

I have been using the Apple MacIntosh since its inception. I do all my professional and private work on the "Mac." It's a very simple computer to use. I use it for graphic design, advertising design, as well as word processing and various other applications. (I am a college professor as well as an advertising creative director).

Painting

I have a degree in Art (BA) from CSULB. I am a professional illustrator. I've taught painting on the high school level, and do teach drawing and painting for private clients. My illustration work has been used in a variety of high profile advertising by Fortune 500 companies.

Photography

I studied photography as part of my BFA in Graphic Design. As a professional photographer, I know how to shoot (using various lenses), develop and print my own black and white photos as well as color. Now I use primarily 35mm digital slr for most of my work. My own photography has been used to illustrate my print ads. In total, I have over 25 to 30 years of experience shooting both outdoors and indoors with natural light or artificial light (strobes and/or incandescent lights). I also process all my digital photos through Adobe Photoshop.

Public Speaking

In high school, I came in first for the Long Beach Unified School district speech contest. I went on to the state finals in Sacramento winning third place. I studying public speaking at CSULB (a requirement for all K-12 teachers) for my BA degree in education as well as my teaching credential. I'm a registered speaker for the American Orchid Society. I'm also an advertising creative director so I regularly have to do an oral presentation. I've also taken classes at Chicago's famed, Second City Improve Theater. I am also a college professor, so I also have to be able to conduct a lecture.

Highly Recommended — I came to WyzAnt looking for someone to help me design a logo for my startup company. As someone who has no previous knowledge of Photo Shop, I needed someone who would not only be patient during the design process, but also someone who would explain how I could eventually do it myself. David helped me tremendously. He's very experienced with both Adobe Photo Shop and Illustrator, and made learnin ...
