Well Qualified Biology Lover Looking to Tutor Students

Hello,

I just graduated from CSULB with a Masters in Biology. I taught several subjects as a lab instructor: General Biology, Biostatistics, Human Physiology and Evolution and Diversity. I was awarded this year the Outstanding Graduate Teachers Assistant Award after being anonymously nominated by fellow faculty members. I tutored Biology, Chemistry and Genetics as an undergraduate at SDSU. I love teaching and would hope to continue teaching in the future at a community college. I like to be as engaging as possible with my students and encourage open discussion. I like it when they come in with specific topics/questions they would like to cover that day and let me know ahead of time what those areas are so I can properly prepare. I would construct miniature assignments (when applicable) for them to complete during the tutoring session. I develop miniature lectures based on the subjects the students need help with and carry them out on a whiteboard. I am all about having students take notes and rely mostly on writing on a whiteboard versus developing PowerPoint lectures. Students are more actively engaged and attentive when they are writing down notes versus staring at a PowerPoint presentation.

Biology

I majored in Biology with an emphasis in Marine Biology and Ecology as an undergrad and as a grad student. As an undergrad, I received A's in the principles of organismal biology and principles of molecular cell biology. I taught the laboratory course for General Biology at CSULB where we cover everything biology!

Physiology

My graduate student coursework focused not only on Marine Community Ecology but also on invertebrate physiology and how temperature stress effects the physiology of an important marine snail, the owl limpet. I took courses as a graduate student in animal physiology, fish physiology and endocrinology, physiology of the limits, and I also taught the Human Physiology lab course at CSULB.

Ecology

I have experience in both wetland and intertidal ecology. I assisted on various research projects in estuaries as an undergraduate, and I conducted my own thesis work in the intertidal system as a graduate student. I took ecological courses: general ecology, marine ecology and marine larval ecology, where I received A's.

Zoology

My real passion in life is the study of animals. Primarily, I focused on marine invertebrate and terrestrial invertebrate zoology. I took classes as an undergraduate in marine invertebrate and terrestrial invertebrate zoology, and I passed those classes with flying colors. Biostatistics

I taught the Biostatistics lab course at CSULB for the past 4 years. I covered Poisson, Binomial and Normal distributions, creating confidence intervals, calculating probabilities, Chi Square Analysis of Frequency Tables, One Way and Two Way ANOVAS, regressions and correlation analyses.
