I'm a secondary high school teacher who teaches art! I've had experience in teaching drawing & painting, 3D design, video yearbook, Adobe Photoshop, iMovie, and a little bit of Illustrator. I have also had experience teaching students in elementary school through a program called ArtsBridge. For awhile, I taught at an organization in Long Beach called Arts and Services for Disabled, Inc., where I worked in small classroom settings with adults who had varying disabilities. I find that art is something that is essential to the overall growth and development of an individual. Yes, it has been said time and time again, but forms of art are all around us and I think it's important to spread that information and make people aware.
I am the sort of teacher who is eager to provide my knowledge as well as receive knowledge and information from my students. I believe in a reciprocal teaching environment. I feel that it's important for someone to be able to articulate as much as possible what they feel they need assistance in so that I'm not the one driving their creative process or decisions. I think that it's important for people to take the reigns in their creative endeavors and I'm simply the tour guide who leads you down the right path.
I personally like to draw and occasionally paint using gouache. I draw mostly abstract art and will occasionally throw in something figurative. I really love color in artwork and am really intrigued by artwork that integrates fiber and metals. I am definitely interested in learning more about fiber and metal arts as they lend themselves to really amazing 3-dimensional styles of artwork. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Cal State Long Beach and double majored in Art Education and Psychology, with a minor in Black Studies. I'm still enrolled at Cal State Long Beach and am working towards earning my Masters in Art Education.
I have worked in both Los Angeles and Orange County and feel that I have taught a diverse demographic of young people. I really love the energy and passion that exist in kids today. They help provide new and invigorating ideas and concepts and I love that because it helps keep me feeling fresh and revitalized in my own art journey. People typically describe me as an energetic, upbeat, positive, caring, easy going, and insightful individual. I use these characteristics and many others to make myself more relatable to my students and peers. I really love teaching and I am looking forward to the opportunity to help you reach your goals.
