Aloha. My name is Tehani. I am a world champion dancer, international performer, educator and published writer. I have been involved with youth educational/recreation programs all over Los Angeles County, California and the world. And I have been facilitating educational programs specifically at museums, schools and libraries for several years.

All of my arts programs (particularly dance) comply with the VAPA - Visual And Performing Arts - Content Standards in the State of California. As a Music Major (before transferring over to Anthropology) at CSULB and a lifelong musician, my knowledge of music is quite extensive.

I have taught and performed in more than 11 countries which also includes experience with tutoring in the subjects of writing, reading and English. Though my degree is in Cultural Anthropology, I bring a lot of experience from my work in writing and publishing for tutoring English, which has always been an academic forte of mine throughout my educational career.

Elementary (K-6th)

After graduating from CSULB in 2006 with a BA in Cultural Anthropology, I took (and passed) the CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) required of potential substitute teachers as well as students looking to get their teaching credential. I was at the time interested in being a substitute teacher, but the hours were not conducive to what I wanted to do. The CBEST covered what we were required to know as substitute teachers (for grades k-12) in the state of California.

Study Skills

Study skills are skills that are utilized in all of my tutoring sessions - how to remember information in groups as well as alone better, time management, priority lists, how to prioritize information for better studying, etc. As a researcher (which is heavily needed as a writer, presenter and producer of events) I am always studying new information in-between deadlines, other gigs/jobs and priorities. Ballroom Dancing

I trained privately with Rebecca S. and other well-known ballroom/Latin dance teachers in the Orange County/Los Angeles area and abroad. I was a member of USABDA ballroom dance association for several years. I dance at the gold level and teach silver. I have a variety of ballroom/Latin dance videos of my work that I can share with you.

Public Speaking

I give world performance art educational programs at museums, schools and libraries on a regular basis. It includes performing and speaking for an hour at a time. I have also been invited as a speaker at various events and locations including: SBIFA dinners, the GTOC in Irvine, the International Student Association Annual Dinner, the World March for Peace and Nonviolence, the Skirball Cultural Center (museum).

Salsa Dancing

I have been dancing salsa since I was a young child. I've taught and performed here in the states (primarily California), Costa Rica, Brazil and India. I have a couple videos (one improvisation, the other choreography) of salsa performances I have done available.


Cooking

I am not a professional chef by any stretch of the imagination, but I specialize in vegetarian and vegan cooking. I have been a vegetarian for several years and a vegan for only one year now. I have taught vegetarian cooking classes for kids at summer camps and community workshops over the past year - emphasizing creative and healthy food preparation.

Anthropology

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology at CSULB in 2006.

Nutrition

Plant-based nutrition (vegetarian and vegan) is my forte. As cooking has always been a big part of my life, knowing what I put in all of my foods is important.

As far as nutrition, I am very knowledgeable, but only with plant-based nutrition. I have been a vegetarian for many years and a vegan for the past year. Having such a specific diet and lifestyle, to stay healthy, I had to learn many aspects (as well as a little chemistry) of nutrition.
