Most recently, I have taught English, social studies, integrated coordinated science, and mathematics classes to both general and special education students at the secondary school level in a variety of settings. I have also taught and counseled students in career development at the community college level. I have a great deal of enthusiasm for assisting students, especially individually, to achieve their specific goals. I possess a B.A. degree in International Affairs from George Washington University, an MBA degree in Marketing from Tulane University, and an M.S. degree in Counseling from California State University, Los Angeles.

I prefer to engage students in the learning process by being both patient and encouraging as well as utilizing specific praise to keep students on track to meet their educational objectives. I have extensive knowledge of the English language, and I can tutor students effectively in not only vocabulary and grammar but also reading and writing. As a result, I also can prepare them to study strategically for a variety of tests, such as the ASVAB, SAT and CBEST.

I majored in International Affairs as an undergraduate at George Washington University, and, as a result, consider myself to be extremely well-versed in the major events in American History, both past and present, and can help you remember them readily!

Vocabulary

I possess a very rich vocabulary, having studied Latin in depth in high school, which helped me to comprehend the derivation of many complex words in English. As a result, I can help you to break down these words into their component parts so that you too are better able to determine their overall meaning, both in context and individually.

Grammar

Reading

I like to read, and can share my enthusiasm and understanding of this endeavor quite readily. As a consequence, I can certainly help you with effective strategies to read a variety of materials, including both fiction and non-fiction, with both greater comprehension and appreciation for the written word.

Writing

I like to write immensely, and know that I have an inherent knack for the written word. There are many easy-to-learn tricks to effective writing, and I would be excited to share them with you, so that your writing too stands out from the crowd, and, at the same time, accurately reflects your unique perspective on life!

Geography

I have always had a love of geography, dating back to my childhood. Having taken college level courses in Political Geography at George Washington University, I possess a great deal of expertise in this particular area. Overall, I have the capability to help you understand the importance of geography in the context of not only current but also historical events.

English

I am an extremely effective communicator in the English language, in both oral and written form. I would, therefore, be most delighted to share my knowledge of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, as well as reading and writing skills to increase your overall fluency in English!

Government & Politics

As an undergraduate at George Washington University, I majored in International Affairs, which included many courses in Government and Politics. In addition, I possess a great deal of interest in political events, both past and present, and would be more than happy to assist students in gaining a better understanding of this exciting field of study!

Psychology

I have taken many psychology courses in both undergraduate as well as graduate school, and, moreover, had the opportunity to study psychology in depth in pursuing my M.S. degree in Community College Counseling from California State University, Los Angeles. I, therefore, come well prepared to help students obtain a better understanding of the basic tenets of psychology, including Freud, Jung, and Skinner, among others.

Literature

I am well read in both American and English literature, and can assist students readily in understanding the nuances of language of the most popular authors of past and present.

GRE

Possessing two master's degrees, one in business and the other in counseling, I know the importance that many graduate schools place on scoring well on the GRE. In turn, I would be excited to share my knowledge of effective test-taking strategies in order to maximize your overall score, as well as your chances of being accepted to the graduate school of your choice!

Proofreading

I consider myself to be an expert proofreader, and possess much helpful experience over the years both in editing and checking for errors in my own as well as others' written work. As this comes easily to me, I would be excited to help you with any worthwhile proofreading project!

Law

My father practiced civil law, and, as a result, I possess a solid foundation in this field, particularly as it relates to American jurisprudence. As an MBA student at Tulane University, moreover, I studied Business Law, and possess specialized knowledge in this area.

SAT Reading

Before graduating from high school, I took the SAT reading test and scored in the 700's. I come well prepared, as a result, to share effective test-taking strategies with you so that you too can maximize your reading score.

SAT Writing

I took the SAT writing test before graduating high school, and scored in the 700's, having been very well prepared in high school. Bearing this in mind, I can certainly help you to write more effectively on this portion of the SAT, so that you too can maximize your score in this relatively difficult but extremely critical area.

Philosophy

I studied philosophy as an undergraduate at George Washington University, and found it to be utterly fascinating. As a result, I certainly possess a solid foundation in this field, which I would be more than happy to share with my students to increase their understanding of the basics.

ASVAB

I administered and interpreted the results of the ASVAB for many students in my recent position as a High School Counselor. Consequently, I am well qualified to give pointers on the most productive test-taking strategies for this exam, and, afterwards, once the test results are back, I can definitely assist in the career decision-making process, whether it involves further education or on-the-job training.

Spelling

I have always been an excellent speller, as far back as I can remember, which I can certainly ascribe to an exemplary private school education. To this day, there are very few words that I am unable to spell correctly, as I possess innate linguistic ability in this area, and would be happy to share some effective strategies to make spelling a less daunting task for you!

ACT Reading

Being an avid reader, I can give you the most effective test-taking strategies to retain the information you need on the Reading Section of the ACT exam, so that you can ace these reading comprehension questions with ease!

ACT English

I studied English extensively in a private high school in New York, and, am well versed in test taking strategies, having been a high school and community college counselor for a number of years. I can definitely help you do exceptionally well on the ACT English Test!

Study Skills
