Algebra 1

I'm a semi retired electrical engineer in Long Beach who tutors part time while working on my California teaching credential at UCLA in physics and mathematics.

I have passed the California Department of Education (CDE) California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) Algebra 1 teaching exam. I teach math to at-risk students in Long Beach many of whom are on legal probation.

I'm used to students who are struggling with Algebra 1.

I'm a 60 year-old semi-retired electrical engineer in Long Beach who teaches mathematics and science to America's youth. I used to travel internationally teaching computers and technology in India, China, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Europe, Mexico, and Canada.

Prealgebra is the fundamentals and foundation to all the other sequential mathematics courses in high school. It is very important to one's future development.

Java

I stated programming in Java 1.0 in the 80s. Then I taught Java programming for Sun Microsystems.
I internationally taught Java in 10 different countries. I taught lots of customers in the United States. I taught Sun Microsystems employees how to program in Java. Java is now up to version 7.

Physical Science

I found my first academic love in 7th grade when we studied why there are deserts in the American southwest; it's due to the coastal mountain rain shadow. And at the time I was in Saint Charles, Illinois! A small (10,000) Midwestern town.

I continued my love of science all the way through high school in Gary, Indiana and eventually obtained my electrical engineering degree with options in biomedical/clinical engineering from California State University, Long Beach.

Elementary Math

I've worked at the Long Beach Save Out Future charter school with at-risk students who have not passed their California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). They needed remedial teaching and intervention training to learn their third grade addition/subtraction (especially negative numbers) and their sixth grade fractions. I'm excellent at teaching the youth.

Elementary Science

Many students have difficulty initially grasping Elementary Science because no one has taught them how to understand the concepts. Unfortunately, many teachers simply put the formulas up on the drawing board and call that teaching.

Engineers know that there are physical laws behind all of the concepts and most, if not all, of the concepts can be physically represented with diagrams or physical modeling. Once the students have felt or seen the concepts, then science makes sense to them...

C++

I'm an electrical engineer and learned computer hardware (1970s) before there was computer science. I started assembly programming when I was still in high school in the 1960s.

First we learned C, Dennis Ritchie, (late 1960s) and then the object oriented programming C++, Bjarne Stroustrup, (1980s).

CBEST

I successfully passed all three sections of my California CBEST in 1994. In the past three years I have successfully passed all 10 of the California science, technology, engineering, and mathematics CSET examinations. I'm currently taking the three history CBEST examinations for economics. So far, I have taken and passed two of the three exams. I'm scheduled for the third and final history exam in March 2013.
