I have worked as a writing tutor for two years and wish to become a teacher. I also have the ability to tutor several other subjects. I am currently a student at CSULB and believe the best learning happens when an individual interacts with the material in a way that complements their own learning style.

I have always had a love of reading and books and would like to share the learning strategies I have with students of all ages. I am a diligent student; viewing every day as an opportunity to learn and would love to share this attitude to help students, struggling or not, to reach their full potential. I can tutor English Literature, Philosophy, Astronomy, History and Religion. I am friendly and very patient; I understand that some students have difficulty working with certain subjects and experience frustration. It is my goal to help each student I work with feel confident in themselves and their learning ability. I believe a calm, collected approach to difficult subjects is the key to mastering any subject.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a tutor at COS for a year and a half and have experience tutoring not only at the college level but also at the K-12 level. I have taken several educational classes that focus on teaching to all grade levels. I plan on being a teacher so I have done extensive research on my own regarding learning styles and communication with children.

Study Skills

I was a tutor for two years at my community college as well as a AI for an English class. In those positions I was trained to find ways to aid students in studying and focusing. Good studying begins with good notes and understanding of self. I believe strongly in tailoring studying to students in order to improve efficacy but not to the extent of homework time becoming play time. By working with a student's learning style I hope to bring greater retention to study time.

Theatre

I have been in three musicals in high school, The Wizard of Oz, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor dream coat and Oliver. I have been a stage manager for several shows, most recently The Wedding Singer preformed by El Diamante and have taken an intermediate and advanced drama course in high school. I am now taking an introduction to theater and dramatics at College of the Sequoias; I am intending to make theater my minor.

Tennis

I have been playing tennis for 7 years. I began taking lessons when I was 12 and have played in numerous summer leagues. I played tennis for all four years that I attended high school and was Co-captain my senior year. I understand the fundamentals of the game as well as have a knowledge of the history. I have coached a summer league of children 12 and under and have several techniques to teach the strokes, rules and strategies of the game to both young men and women.

Sign Language

I have taken two semesters of ASL at College of the Sequoias and received an A in both courses. I also participate in several events in the deaf community as well as am involved with the ASL club at CSULB. I keep up with my signing by constant practice and private instruction with an ASL interpreter. I also am continuing my formal study in ASL by seeking an associate's degree in ASL from a community college.
