Years ago I taught at a continuation high school in California. I had a student who was struggling to read. She was sixteen years old at the time, but she read at the 3rd grade level. My principal told me that I was wasting my time attempting to work with her. To my dismay, he met with her parents and kicked her out of the school because he viewed her as hopeless.
Sixteen years later, I ran into her unexpectedly. She immediately recognized me and thanked me for working with her. After she was kicked out of our school, she found a tutor who worked with her diligently. Once she got her reading level up to the 5th grade level, her reading ability skyrocketed to the 12 grade level in just five months. Then she found a math tutor. She ended up going to college and becoming a registered nurse. At the time we met, she was working in Intensive Care at a nearby hospital.
See what tutoring can do!!!
