I am a licensed teacher, certified in California to teach Language Arts (English) and Social Studies (History, Politics, etc.) at all levels. I have also tutored math through a tutoring company. I have been working as a tutor since the spring of 2010, specializing in test prep, academic enrichment, and general homework help.

I have a triple major from Cornell College in English, History, and Secondary Education. I graduated with high honors and a 3.8 GPA. I also have completed graduate coursework with an A grade in Adolescent Literature through Morningside College. I have also earned an overall score of 33 on the ACT, and I scored an 800 on SAT Reading, 700 on SAT Writing, and 670 on SAT Math.

I am passionate about helping students work through concepts using their individual learning style. I have successfully helped students raise their grades to straight A's. My test prep students have increased their scores by up to 35% with my help, with a typical score increase of 20%. I am serious about thoughtfully preparing for each tutoring session, and I look forward to helping you achieve your learning goals.

ACT English

I scored in the 99th percentile on the English section of the ACT. Since that time, I have earned a Bachelor's degree in English and become a licensed English teacher.

ACT Reading

I scored a 35 (out of 36) on the Reading section of the ACT. Since I took the ACT, I have earned a Bachelor's degree in English. I am now a licensed English teacher in the state of California.

Algebra 1

I have extensive experience tutoring Algebra 1 from working with a private tutoring company. With that company, I worked one-on-one with Algebra 1 students for a total of twelve hours each. To measure teaching effectiveness, each student took a pre-test and a post-test covering all Algebra 1 topics; on average, my students' scores increased by 20%. I identify student needs, then help students through examples as they master each skill. I use examples on paper, draw illustrations, and sometimes use web-based tools to provide fresh examples and explanations.

American History

I have a Bachelor's degree in History with an emphasis in American History. I am currently a certified History teacher in the state of California, and I have previously been certified to teach History in three other states. My experience teaching history includes one semester as the teacher of all 11th grade U.S. History courses at a private high school.

CBEST

I passed the CBEST in March 2013. My scores were all in the highest scoring range of 61 or above, and well above the 41 points needed to pass. I scored 79/80 on reading, 78/80 on math, and 63/80 on writing.

I have my California teaching credential in English Language Arts, so I am very qualified to teach reading and writing. I have also worked extensively with a private tutoring company teaching test preparation for high school math exams, with my students averaging a twenty percent increase in their math exam scores after twelve hours of tutoring.

SAT Reading

I scored an 800 on the Reading section of the SAT. I am also licensed as an English teacher in California. I have a Bachelor's degree in English from Cornell College.
