I have traveled, lived and worked internationally. I am detailed oriented with excellent organizational and linguistic skills. I have a strong working knowledge of French, with twelve years' study at school and university. I graduated from Queen's University of Belfast with a Bachelor of Education Honors. My double major was French and Educational Studies. This degree also certified me to teach in schools in the United Kingdom. In addition to four years in college, I spent one year in Paris, France, teaching English language classes to French high school students. This year overseas was part of my degree course.

After graduation, I moved to Hong Kong, where I secured a position as French teacher in a private High School, preparing the students for the General Certificate of Education examination in French. Following this one year appointment, I then spent almost four years in Germany, where I taught children of Armed Forces employees as well as adults at Community College and private companies.

My emphasis in language teaching is to build a solid grammar basis, to develop language structures and a core vocabulary, and to facilitate accurate and disciplined pronunciation.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I first taught English as a second language when I lived in Hong Kong for a year. I had students for private lessons. I also taught English language for three years when I lived in Germany. I taught adults at the local Volkshochschule (community college) and at local businesses.

French

Bonjour,

I would love to become your French tutor. I took French for seven years in high school in Ireland from the age of 12-18 years old. I then did a four year degree in French and educational studies (B.Ed. Hons) at Queen's University of Belfast. In addition to this, I spent a year in Paris as an English language assistant teacher in a high school there.

After graduating I taught French in a private high school in Hong Kong to English speaking students. I also worked in London, England and Munich, Germany where I taught both English and French to elementary students through adult learners.

I can help you with all aspects of learning a language. We will develop your skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as building a solid foundation of grammar and vocabulary.

I look forward to the opportunity to be your tutor.

à bientôt,

Corinne
