Originally a biology and chemistry teacher, I have expanded my subjects of instruction, over the years, to include math, reading, and writing. I am a current credentialed teacher who effectively adapts instructional modalities to the student's learning needs with extensive experience with children, teens, and adults in the classroom and at-home instruction. It's been a privilege to serve the community and has been especially rewarding working with many math and writing students in the Tri-Valley districts and seeing them turn around their performance in these subjects. References from these students and families are available upon request.

I also have years of private industry experience as a software engineer and Project Manager that included mathematical modeling in financial analytics. I also instruct in business writing as well as general essay composition.

Additionally, I tutor in dyslexia remediation for all age levels and provide dyslexia screening services and consultation. I am trained by Susan Barton, Founder of "Bright Solutions for Dyslexia," and in other related graduate level course work at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

CBEST

I am a California Credentialed Teacher with extensive classroom and private tutoring experience in math, reading, writing, and grammar. More specifically, I have tutored 7 CBEST candidates over the past 3 years that resulted in passing scores.

Dyslexia

I am a dyslexia consultant. I have screened for dyslexia and tutored students for the past 8 years using best practices in Orton-Gillingham based methods. I have received training in dyslexia remediation instruction and screening in graduate level course work thru the University of Michigan, Dearborn and directly from Susan Barton (Barton Reading and Spelling program).

Phonics

I have extensive experience and training in phonics instruction and its application. Much of this is from training and my practice as a dyslexia consultant where phonics and "phonemic awareness" play such an important role. I look forward to helping you or your child learn how to read.

Reading

I am a dyslexia specialist, certified in the Barton Reading and Spelling and also certified in reading/spelling instruction by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. My solid background and experience in these areas are well suited for general reading instruction and screening.

Huge Difference — Our Principal's Honor Roll student was failing Geometry. My daughter had complained about her teacher not teaching them. After two sessions with Dave, she got the highest grade in the class on her quiz and the following test she got a B. She enjoys their sessions and feels a great deal more confident in the subject. We are grateful to have found him. ...
