During 2009-2011 I taught Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing at a high school which caters to students who are behind in credits. Based on my 30+ years in the Graphic Arts, Marketing and Newspaper industries, I hold a Clear Full-Time California Vocational Designated Subjects Teaching Credential in the following subjects: Printing & Graphics Occupations, Electronic Publishing; Computer Applications and Computer Systems Operations. During 2009-2011 I taught Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing at a high school which caters to students who are behind in credits.

The course, which I developed, prepared students for entry-level positions in the graphic arts field. With emphasis on the elements of design, typography and layout, students created art for flyers, logos, packaging, labels, invitations, programs, CD Covers, illustrations and more using industry standard software.

Additionally, I guided students in the concept, design and production of their yearbook two years in a row including photography, copy writing, design and production.

In addition to teaching, I have run my own freelance graphic design business since 1999.

I am the mother of two children and have patience and a sense of humor, or so I am told. I look forward to helping you succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have taught Graphic Design at the high school level using Adobe Illustrator as the main tool to publish the yearbook. I have also taught Illustrator as a separate class at the college level (Brooks College).

Adobe InDesign

I have used Adobe InDesign in my freelance graphic design business since 2003. Prior to that I used and taught QuarkXpress (a similar program). As a high school Graphic Design instructor, InDesign was one of the subjects I taught.

Desktop Publishing

I have had my own graphic design business since 1999. Prior to that time, as well as during it, I have worked as a typographer and graphic artist for a variety of companies including newspapers, ad agencies and marketing companies. Desktop publishing has always been my ballywick.

ESL/ESOL

I have a Clear Certificate of Staff Development which, when held in conjunction with my teaching credential as specified in Education Code 44253.11(a), authorizes me to provide services to English learners in my subjects.

Macintosh

I have had my own freelance graphic design business since 1999 in which I primarily use the Macintosh platform. My responsibilities have included both software and hardware management and troubleshooting. I also have taught Graphic Design and Computers at the high school and college levels in classroom labs that used Mac computers.

Study Skills

I am an experienced, credentialed teacher and have taught at the elementary, high school, college and adult levels. My most recent long-term teaching experience was at a continuation high school whose students are challenged in a variety of ways. Although not formalized, teaching study skills was an integral part of that experience.
