Teaching for 32 years is not something you do just to work. It's not just a job. For me, it's been a calling.
From the time I was in 6th grade, I have wanted to teach. That year my teacher was energetic, funny, and made learning enjoyable. I wanted to be like him. I worked hard in school, finishing high school in three, instead of the usual four, year. Then on to Cerritos College, Norwalk, CA, where I finished my Associates degree with a major in English. I continued my education at Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska. I earned my Bachelors degree in Education and had carried a composite major of English and Speech and Drama. My Masters degree in Elementary Reading and Language Arts was earned at Cal State, Los Angeles a few years into my career. I continue to receive trainings in educational technology, teaching science, math, language arts, and ELD--English Language Development. In fact, I hold a credential to teach English and Educational Technology as single subjects.
My teaching experiences have been plentiful and rewarding. Mostly spent in the elementary grades, I have also taught adult ed. and secondary from time to time. Thirty-two years ago I began teaching. I still love the job I chose. I still consider it a calling, and I know it's a God-given gift.
What I bring to tutoring and teaching is a simple love for sharing knowledge. I can help in any subject at elementary level. I have used Microsoft Word and PowerPoint extensively and have a good grasp of Publisher as well if that is where your need is. I can help you edit that paper you're struggling to finish. I can help you get past some particular difficulty in math or reading.
In short, I want to help you be successful. I will do what it takes to find what's holding you back and get past it. I love when that happens! Then you can carry on with confidence and have more successes to spur you on.
Writing, grammar, and language arts are the areas with which I am most versed and experienced. However, as a teacher with extensive experience, I am confident that I can help you in most areas that come my way.
I will take time to listen to you and carefully assess your level of need. Then we will work together to develop a strategy that will help you succeed as quickly and effectively as possible.
Now, having taught for thirty-two years, I feel I still bring energy, vitality, and fun to learning while still making a difference in the lives of my kids.
Let me help you now.
