With years of experience as a writer and teacher, I can thoroughly assess your needs, and craft a curriculum just for you. I've worked with all ages, from 10 to adult.

Let me help you become comfortable and even master the art writing, grammar, vocabulary, literature and all related subjects.

My biggest joy as a teacher has been to develop in children a love of literature. I have encountered numerous children who are bored to tears by most of the literature they encounter, and I have found great pleasure in introducing them to exciting literary characters.

I teach grammar through diagramming sentences. My reason is twofold: First, it has a proven track record of success (over 100 years). Second, it is a visual way of illustrating the principles of grammar. Plus it's much more fun than rote memorization!

I can assure you that with a few basic sessions of diagramming you, or your child, will become more confident in their use of the English language.

Career Development

I paid my own way through college. To do so, I worked at a marketing company called Vector Marketing for four years. Along the way I worked as a sales rep, a Sales Manager, a Pilot Sales Manager and a District Manager running my own offices in Texas and then Colorado.

My primary function as a manager was to train young high school graduates and college students to run their own independent business. I taught thousands of students how to prioritize, plan schedules, reach goals and more.

I do not have a degree in the classics. My specialty is from minoring in philosophy in college and attending a specialized school of philosophy called The Objectivist Academic Center. My focus was always ancient philosophy.

Also, I am working through "The Great Works of the Western World" series by Mortimer Adler and Robert Hutchins, and would love to teach certain texts to young students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I teach at a private school in Irvine in the subjects of grammar, vocabulary, writing, literature and reading. I have taught mostly 5th graders, but I have experience with 4th and 6th as well.

I currently teach Language Arts at a private school in Irvine.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from The University of Colorado-Denver in Film/Theatre/Television production. I've made over a dozen short films. And I have participated in professional training seminars in Los Angeles.

I currently teach grammar at a private school in Irvine. I'm a published author with years of experience writing and editing. For children, I use a program from the Institute for the Excellence in Writing, which has had amazing success in creating writers out of children who normally do not enjoy writing.

I currently teach literature at a private school in Irvine. My belief is that all children should be introduced to the classics as early as possible. In the past, I've had great success teaching very difficult texts to quite very young students. My method depends on age; for the young I concentrate on character, for the older I concentrate on character plus theme and plot.

Public Speaking

I founded and participated in a Toastmasters club for two years, and I received my "Competent Communicator" certificate. Also, I worked at a marketing job where public speaking was a daily occurrence.

I teach literature and language arts at a private school in Irvine. I Believe adamantly in the importance of learning to read through writing. Moreover, I believe that literature--good entertaining literature--is the best way to improve a child's reading ability. This is mainly accomplished by modeling good read-alouds and allowing the child to read-aloud afterward.

Study Skills

I have taught college students and elementary students on the basics of organization and good study habits. In my fifth grade class, I help students prioritize their homework in order of importance and by due date. Breaking it down this way, and helping them fill out planners on a daily basis, which I sign and the parent signs, has proven to be incredibly beneficial for students' study skills.

Video Production

I received my Bachelor of Arts from The University of Colorado-Denver in Film/Theatre/Television production. I've made over a dozen short films. And I have participated in professional training seminars in Los Angeles.

As a literature and language arts teacher at a private school in Irvine, I taught vocabulary. I teach vocabulary primarily through literature. While I can teach vocabulary per se, I do not think this is the best of methods. Just this last semester I taught my fifth grade class over 200 difficult words, and while it's true they only use a small percentage of those words on their own, it's also true that they've had great success reading and comprehending those words when they've seen them again in different texts.

Teaching literature and language arts at a private school in Irvine included the teaching of writing. I have a particular program we use, which has been very successful. It basically consists of the students creating simple outlines from fairy tales, and then writing based on the outline. I also teach writing through literature, by giving the student numerous short answer questions, and then working with them to edit through their mistakes.

More, I have a background in writing. I wrote for my college newspaper. I founded my own college newspaper and wrote for that as well. I have taken professional writing courses outside of college.
