ACT English is where most of my students make the largest score gains. Most of my students have a firm grasp of the English language, but when asked questions about how or why, they are understandably confused.

I shed some light on the common question types students will encounter on the test. By the time a student is done working with me, he or she will know the difference between a relative and reflexive pronoun, and will be able to separate prepositional phrases from participial phrases.

Of the 7 times I have taken the ACT, I have consistently gotten a perfect 36 every time on the math section.

There are many strategies and techniques that truly work on this test. In my analysis of over 30 real ACT practice tests, I can tell you in an instant if a certain type of question is a repeat offender or an anomaly.

One of my specialties when working with my higher-achieving ACT students is that I will combine SAT Math 2 tutoring with ACT Math tutoring. It is like getting twice as much tutoring for the same price!

Unlike the SAT Reading Comprehension passages, you don't have time to leisurely read your passages.

I have a couple proven strategies that I teach my students so they aren't as pressed for time when taking the ACT Reading.

Like most students, I struggled with the ACT science portion at first. I had trouble understanding questions, and relating it to the confusing graphs.

Soon after my first attempt at the ACT science, I dissected the test into its foundational components and teach those to my students. We learn important vocabulary and sentence structure that makes the process of taking the test much easier and more straightforward.

There are two ways to teach Algebra.

One is to teach each subject as an isolated idea. The other is to relate the ideas and show how they relate to each other.

The biggest problem I find with students is that they don't see the relationships between numbers, variables, and graphs. The truth is they are all related!

Algebra I and Geometry are the foundation for higher math. Without a strong foundation, subsequent levels of math will become frustratingly difficult.

Like the course title implies, Algebra 2 must be done after a firm understanding of Algebra 1.

The reason most students do not do well at Algebra 2 is because they do not have a firm foundation and so they can't connect the dots between Algebra 1 and 2.

That's where I come in!

Derivatives, curves, limits, and rates of change! Calculus can be quite fun if you get it. Just ask me about my 100% AP Calculus pass rate. Maybe you can join that elite group of students!

Mandarin Chinese was my first language. I officially studied Chinese for two years when I was at Northwestern. I can help with basic conversational Chinese as well as characters and pinyin.

At Northwestern, I worked closely with the college admissions office as both an interviewer and an essay reader.

Since then, I have used my position as a test prep expert to help students prepare for more than just the test. To look at the SAT as an individualized entity is harmful more than it is helpful. Students truly need to consider the entire package throughout their 4-years at high school: AP classes, extracurriculars, supplemental education, outside passions.

I consult with students to make sure they are making the most use out of the 4-years in high school. The biggest mistake a student can make is to do what everybody else is doing while ignoring their own passions.

I help students approach the process of college admissions holistically, not statistically.

In addition to being a private tutor, I am the test preparation coordinator for a boutique company in Pasadena. We focus not only on College Admissions exams, but also High School exams including COOP and HSPT.

Did you know that all of geometry is based on Euclid's 5 axioms?

5 little tiny rules are the foundation of a year-long course that can leave a student frustrated and confused.

The truth is, everything is related to each other, yet that can get lost in translation of proofs, postulates, corollaries, and CPCTC.

Out of all the subjects, this is the subject that I get the most "ah hah!" moments out of.

Precalculus is actually my favorite subject to teach. This is where all forms of math converge into a ball of extremely interesting concepts. Whereas many teachers just throw random formulas at students, I work from the ground up, deriving each equation as they were originally discovered thousands of years ago.

Trust me, it's a powerful learning tool.

During my time as a math major, I took a year-long course in probability, during which we studied topics from basic probability all the way to distributions of continuous and discrete random variables.

In addition, I took the first actuarial exam, which tests your knowledge of probability, and received a 10/10 -- a score that less than 5% of test takers receive.

The PSAT is the oft-overlooked little brother of the SAT. This is a mandatory exam, yet most fail to realize that it does have some importance, at least for some students.

A great score can qualify you for the NMSQT. Don't know what that is?

Just ask!

I am a curriculum writer for SAT Math. I am currently developing a program for a college counseling service in Pasadena.

When you choose me as a tutor for test preparation, you are not only employing the services of a test preparation expert, you also gain access to my library of 1000s of test questions.

I have literally spent hundreds of hours amassing and digitizing my collection. In addition, I have read every test book out there and know which ones are worth the money and which ones are complete bollocks.

I have identified the key tools every student needs to become a discerning critical reader. Most students casually read when they take the test; I teach students how to effectively attack the reading section.

While grammar is a necessity of speech, its function has escaped us. It isn't hard, just unfamiliar.

Once you familiarize yourself with the grammar, you'll see how easy it is.

The essay, on the other hand, can be quite a beast. There are still ways to ease the pain of the 25-minute rough draft. I have a pre-formatted essay structure that I use with my students. Instead of having to write an essay from scratch, you actually have a starting point!

I treat Spanish much like the way I treat math. To me, learning a language is like learning math. Everything has a formula that needs to be equalized. Furthermore, I teach Spanish from a language learner's point of view, since I had to learn the language myself.

My favorite part of Spanish is conjugating verbs. I think it's fun.

Over the past few years, I have stepped in to supplement the education of most AP Stats students in the Orange County area. I teach Statistics from a practical point of view, explaining the formulas so that students can apply them (instead of memorizing them).

For both school years ending in 2012 and 2013, all the students I helped in AP Stats were able to pass the AP exam.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
