Hi, I'm Daniel and I graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Throughout college I volunteered as a tutor for the AVID program at a local high school. It was this experience that ignited my passion for coaching students academically. I currently work with students of all ages, from elementary grades to college.
I have a strong background in mathematics and sciences, and most students seek my help in those areas. I specialize in tutoring natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology) and math. I also tutor SAT test prep for the SAT 1 and SAT 2 subject tests.
My approach to tutoring varies to best suit a student's individual style of learning and time constraints. When students have a loose foundation—understanding some pieces but not yet rock solid—it's my job to fill in the gaps and solidify their learning. I'm not replacing the role of a teacher; I'm supplementing and adding to what the teacher does in the classroom.
For the student crunched for time because of an imminent exam, I may request that student or parent email me a study guide so I can create a lesson that covers as many topics as time affords. Additionally, I may bring prepared worksheets or notes for students to take home and study after our session is over. That way students may continue reviewing topics from the lesson. This gives students confidence in their ability to learn without the company of a tutor.
How parents are involved:
It's important to me to inform parents/guardians on the progress of their students. I'll give progress reports with every lesson or as often as possible. I'll provide these updates either in person, over the phone, or by email. I welcome your feedback and input. Please let me know if there are specific ways that I can help your student.
I will be supportive and teach you techniques to succeed in the classroom. Study tips and practice suggestions are integrated into every lesson. Remember that a large part of your success will depend on how much YOU are willing to work for it; your tutor cannot do the work for you. Please understand I cannot promise you miraculous results if you are not willing to put in the effort. Together, we'll design a study plan that works for you.
