I took a course specifically in genetics at UC Irvine and did very well. Every course in biology I have taken has used genetics in one way or another. I know everything from genetic recombination to DNA replication, transcription and translation. I have a very strong understanding of Mendelian inheritance and, because of my background in economics and statistics, I can explain the probabilities of certain outcomes.
I received a 32 on my MCAT exam, which places me in the 90th percentile internationally. In my preparation for the exam, I took over 15 practice exams and completed thousands of problems in each subject category, so I have seen almost everything to be expected on the exam. If students do not already have any MCAT prep books, I have the necessary materials to help guide my lessons. I have taken a prep course for the MCAT, and although I do not strictly follow the structure outlined by the course, I know exactly what it takes to do well on the MCAT and can pass on invaluable advice to students.
I have completed a full year of organic chemistry lectures and labs at UC Irvine. I also studied organic chemistry while preparing for the MCAT exam, so I know the subject well. This will not be the first time I have tutored it. Rather than forcing students to memorize, I focus more on the conceptual understanding of the material. I encourage students to ask why certain things are the way they are. Learning this way helps students to adapt to a variety of problems whether or not they have been exposed to them in the past.
I played soccer competitively during high school and college. I have a great understanding of the fundamentals of the game and know what is crucial for the development of a soccer player.
