As a cosmetologist, I have been in the field since the 1970's. I attended and completed a cosmetology program at Goldenwest College in Huntington Beach, CA. The school was fabulous. It not only prepared me well to pass the state board, but it also trained me in some of the latest techniques that made me a lot of money. At that time, state board was in downtown Los Angeles. I was nervous during both exams but passed with flying colors. I worked as a stylist up until the mid 1990's and then changed my career course. I completed a BA degree in psychology at Sacramento State University and got into the field of Human Resources. In 2006, I was a recruiter but was laid off due to the down turned economy. I decided to go back into cosmetology and had to take the state board exams all over again. Now I was headed for Glendale. There had been a lot of changes since I took the exams the first time but didn't know it ahead of time. The written, I passed with no problem (had a cosmo textbook) but failed the practical. I took a refresher course on the practical and passed once again. I now work in a salon and am considering becoming a cosmetology instructor. I am confident that I can prepare you for the state board exams. I will tell you what actually goes on there, what you need to look out for, every detail of the exams. If you have learning disabilities, I can work with you and have strategies to help. I am very patient, positive and a good listener. If you live far from me, we can do tutoring over Skype or the telephone. If you are willing to try, I know I can help you succeed.
