and earth science
teacher and tutor since 1996. I have been certified to teach physics and earth science

My undergraduate education was completed at Pennsylvania State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
in 1983. After working in the HVAC industry as a consulting engineer, I returned to graduate school at West Chester University to complete my teaching certification in Earth Science and a Master of Education degree in Secondary Education in 1996. I first entered the teaching field in the public school setting, where I worked for four years on the east Coast before relocating to the West Coast and have been working as a high school physics/geoscience/mathematics
teacher for the past twelve years. Outside of the school setting, I have had a proposal accepted by NASA for inclusion of a project that was carried into space aboard space shuttle Endeavor for ten days during mission STS-108 in 2001. I also have organized astronomical star parties to educate interested persons about astronomy and navigating the night sky. Each year that I taught Astronomy/Earth Science, I took my students on a field trip to a major science center, including the Chabot Space and Science Center (CA), Goddard Space Flight Center (MD), and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (DC) as a culminating activity for the course.
Please note the diversity of work experience that I possess, which is one of the reasons that my students are able to benefit so greatly from my teaching style. Aside from having worked as a mechanical engineer in an industrial setting, I also have worked in both the public and independent school settings. Thus, I have a multiplicity of skills to draw upon for identifying appropriate teaching methodologies for engaging students in order to maximize the effectiveness of their learning. I enjoy working with students and being able to help them achieve their maximum potential so that they, too, will experience the excitement and joy of learning to understand the physical workings of the world around us.
