My name is Ulysses.
I am currently 26 years old and continuously creating art.
I have been creating art since I was about 3 years old. I have been drawing for an extensive amount of time, painting in oils for about 10 years, and painting digitally in both photoshop and painter for about 6 years now. During my college years I have studied anatomy in order to better my figurative work. I draw and paint realistically, so it is important to understand how the body works and where muscles and bones originate in the body.
I went to Laguna College of Art and Design where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration. During my four years there I grew in my painting abilities and computer abilities as well. I studied with artists that have worked for major companies like Disney, and many freelance and gaming industries.
I have taught students 4th-12th grade and worked with young adults as well. I am very patient when it comes to teaching others art as well as any other areas they made need assistance in. I greatly follow the motto practice makes perfect and dont expect anyone to arrive in the first session! I teach based on the students experience and will always check-in to make sure that the student is following and understanding what I am sharing and doing. I believe strongly in encouragement and will do whatever I can to make the student feel confident in his or her work no matter the level.
I have worked in photoshop for over 5 years now. Much of the work that I create in photoshop are illustrations, and sometimes using it to clean up and fix photographs and images.
I have a fairly good working knowledge of the tools, such as : the pen tool, stamp, lasso, eraser, paint brush and the eye drop. I also tend to use transparencies a fair amount in my work, along with the layer mask in order to not alter the layer I am currently working on.
I use an 11 x 14 wacom tablet when I work in photoshop, simply because when I draw or paint, I need to be able to create smooth curves and work quickly.
I have been studying anatomy intensively all through college. Most of my knowledge is on the bones as well as major and minor muscle groups that would relate more with artists. Therfore I have an in-depth understanding of the muscles one would tend to see on a figure such as the latissimus dorsi originating from the lower-back to the armpit and upper-back region. When I tutor, I would try to focus on something the person could see clearly, as well as use illustrations of real people to demostrate the muscle or bone even further.
During my years at Laguna College of Art and Design. I also took two anatomy for artist seminars at Fullerton College, where the instructor used slides, drawings and a skeleton to demonstrate the bones and the muscles. This method was invaluable to me, and I am sure it would be invaluable to the student as well.
As this would not be an advanced anatomical tutoring style, my tutoring would be more geared toward individuals who have a desire to draw a figure realistically, and with authority, and eventually without the need for reference.
I love to draw. A day does not go by where I am not drawing personal work, or work for someone else. I have been drawing since I was about three years old. I have drawn everything from animals and people, to fantasy creatures and environments. I have, up until highschool, been a self-taught artist. In Claremont Highschool, I took art classes as well as taking Saturday high courses at Art Center College of Design my sophomore year. At the college I focused on figure drawing and figure painting courses for three years.
When I graduated from Highschool I went to Laguna College of Art and Design. It was there that I took courses concentrated in jesture drawing as well as highly technical drawing. I took a variety of courses involving drawing, including: Figure Drawing I and II, rendering, perspective, editorial illustration I and II, visual developement, character design and many others. I recieved two awards from the Pacific Art Foundation: "Best of Sophomore Illustration/animation" for a stippling project I created in my rendering class, and "Best of Junior Illustration/animation for an adapted concept drawing of the "Harp" from the story "Jack and the Beanstalk."
I recently graduated from the college with a B.F.A. and have been drawing and painting ever since. With tutoring, I can teach those struggling with basic drawing priciples, to those who want to be quicker and more accurate renderers.
I am currently illustrating a detailed 20 page graphic novel for a client, in which I am drawing every panel. I also have a website displaying my drawings and paintings - www.ulyssesaiii.deviantart.com.
I have used Microsoft Word for over 12 years. For students writing papers, I am happy to lend my help with this software. I can show the student how to change margins, edit their work, insert pictures, use borders, bullets, fonts, indent, work with useful tools such as spell check and the thesaurus, and much more. It's also important to realize that Microsoft Word is simply a tool to aid the student, just like Adobe Photoshop, you will get what you put into the program. I will work closely with the student ensuring that they understand Microsoft Word thoroughly and soon will be able to use it as another tool to help reach their goal.
I have over 10 years experience painting in oils and acrylics. I studied at Laguna College of Art & Design for 4 years, Art Center College of Design for 2, and took a portrait painting class at Los Angeles Academy of Figurative art. I can teach still-life painting, portrait and figure painting and illustration.
I can teach students K-12 to read proficiently. I am also very patient when it comes to teaching and will take as long as the student needs in order for them to have an effective outcome in school as well as life afterward.
Learning vocabulary words can be a daunting task for any student, yet it is one of the most crucial subjects to learn no matter what you do in life. With vocabulary I will work on the students level, knowing that each students' ability will vary. Whether it is for a test or becoming more accustomed to using more eloquent language for a paper, I can assist the student on both levels.
I enjoy writing along with art, and it has become something that I have grown in over the years.
When it comes to writing and tutoring students in light of editing papers or writing them, I am very patient with them. Many times it is a matter of simply being concise with their words, as I have learned in my own written work. Sometimes it is being able to find those words that make the paper stand out among the rest. I may throw some words out to generate ideas or present questions to the student in order to better understand what they are aiming for. Whatever the case, my goal, as with anything in life, is that they would feel confident in their work and in themselves to write well.
Not Dependable — Ulysses came for a few weeks, kept on having to change times which disappointed kids because they were looking forward to class. Has beautiful drawings that he shares are his. If they are, he is quite talented but not a good match for us. I was just getting adjusted to him and ready to recommend him to friends thinking that maybe his style is different. The kids came out with beautiful drawings of ...
