Dear Parents and Students,

Here is a brief Intro to my educational background and teaching experiences. My educational degrees include a B.A. in Sociology from Stanford University, and a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. My California Teaching Credential is from National University. I am currently an Online Associate Faculty member at Ashford University teaching a variety of business courses: Introduction to Advertising, Principles of Marketing, Marketing Strategies, and Consumer Behavior.

Teaching online is rewarding because there are many opportunities to interact on an individual basis with students with interesting backgrounds, and careers from around the country.

I truly enjoyed teaching English, and Ancient Civilizations to 6th graders in the Cajon Valley Union School District for ten years. My classes were made up of a diverse community of students, and English was a second language for many of the students. In addition, I had the opportunity to help out individual students in after school Homework Club.

Scaffolding was the teaching method I used frequently in the classroom. Some of the steps included modeling, summarizing, predicting, clarifying, and reciprocal teaching. I believe that these are actually steps that can be applied in any learning situation.

Education has always been an important part of my life, along with the desire to share the love of learning.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently have an active K-6th California Teaching Credential. I truly enjoyed teaching 6th grade students English and history (ancient civilizations) for 10 years in the Cajon Valley Union School District. I also taught 6th grade math and science on occasion. I have a Gifted and Talented Education certification, and I have taught ESL classes as well. I currently teach online marketing classes with Ashford University, which involves working with adult students on an individual and classroom format.

Here is a brief introduction to my education and experience:

- Stanford University- B.A. Sociology
- University of Southern California - Master's in Public Admin
- National University - Teaching Credential

6th grade English and history - Cajon Valley Union School District 10 years
College Marketing Strategy - Ashford University - 6 years

I have a Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) certificate, and
I helped with after school tutoring. I have worked with a diverse population of students at Ashford as well. The college courses have all been online.

I have always enjoyed helping students to discover the love of learning, and to see their growth.

For the last six years I have taught at various times the following online classes for Ashford University: Intro to Advertising, Marketing Principles, Marketing Strategies, and Consumer Behavior. I have a B.A. degree in Sociology which covers many of the same theories as found in the discipline of business marketing.

I taught 6th grade English for 10 years in a culturally diverse community of students. I often incorporated phonics with the spelling lessons. I also taught English as a second language. I believe that using phonics as part of the learning scaffolding method is a highly effective means of learning reading comprehension, and spelling.

Social Studies

My B.A. in Sociology Research and Theories covered disciplines that are part of the National Standards by the National Council for the Social Studies: anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, history, law, philosophy, political science, psychology, and religion.
Also, as a 6th grade teacher of English and ancient civilizations, I drew from several of the social studies themes on a daily basis for lessons. One example was connecting the games that children played in ancient Egypt, China, Mesopotamia, and Israel, to the similar games played by children today.
When children relate their surrounding world to their own experiences, they become critical thinkers and learners.

Study Skills

As a 6th grade English and history teacher for 10 years, I often combined the reading of a textbook with the scaffolding skills used for reading literature, grammar, and spelling. Another class I taught was reading for second language learners. I also helped in an after school homework club which included help with approaches to effective learning.
