Hello!

My name is Emily! I'm a freshman at Biola University majoring in music education! I am also involved in the Torrey honors program! I graduated from Linfield Christian High School with honors. I have studied the clarinet, saxophone and flute for about 10 years in school programs and through private instruction. I passed the AP exams for European history, U.S. History, Government and Politics, Language and Composition, and Literature and Composition. I also took four years of American Sign Language. I would love to use these skills that I have gained to help you or your student in any area I am able.

I can work with any age group high school and under. Because I am studying to become an educator, I am very passionate about helping students succeed. My approach to tutoring revolves around helping students to answer their own questions and encouraging them to excel in any academic situation. My rates are flexible.

Math is a necessary tool in school and in practical life. I have taken algebra through statistics and excelled in mathematics as a high school student! I would love to help you in any way I can!

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is essential to expressing oneself! I will help students with many different techniques to learn including flash cards, word associations, learning as movement and more!

Reading

Reading is the gateway to knowledge! I am an avid reader and an encouraging tutor. In high school I scored well on both the AP Literature and AP language and composition tests! Now as a college student, I am involved in the Torrey Honors program at Biola University which is centered around reading the great books. I would be so happy to help your student achieve the necessary skills to love reading!

Writing

Writing is a subject that I am particularly passionate about. I see writing and expressing oneself as the gateway to all other kinds of learning. I would love to help your student develop their skills in this area!

English

English is an exciting, fascinating, and occasionally frustrating subject. I would love to work patiently with students as they achieve their goals, whether they are in writing, reading, literature, spelling, grammar or composition. I personally have excelled in theses areas throughout my school career and would love to help students do this same

Proofreading

Proofreading and an outside opinion are so helpful in the process of essay writing! I personally have excelled in writing and have often been asked by my peers to proofread essays. I have also recently undergone the process of college essay writing. This gives me the advantage of knowing the type of information that schools require in these essays. I pay careful attention to detail, yet I am not overly harsh.

SAT Writing

The SAT is a crucial part of your college application! I personally did well on my SATs and I an help you to do the same! My method for tutoring involves skill development, practice problems, and strategies to help you do your best on test day!

Elementary (K-6th)

The elementary years are a crucial in the development of skills that will carry students through high school and beyond! I have worked with elementary students in a church capacity for 5 years. I am extremely patient, yet I encourage students to do their best and excel in all areas of learning. My particular emphasis would be English, history and music, but I can also help students in math or science if assistance is needed in these areas additionally.

Saxophone

I have played the tenor saxophone for 8 years. I studied under Craig Yancey and have been involved in several honor bands and jazz bands. My primary focus would be to teach students the basic techniques, fundamentals and basic improvisation.

Flute

I have played the flute for several years. I have played in several concert bands, church bands and musical theatre productions. My main focus on the flute would be to teach beginners the basics and improve embouchure and technique.

Clarinet

I have played the clarinet for 10 years. I have been involved in several honor bands, music camps, and am emphasizing in clarinet as a music major at Biola University. I have studied privately with Craig Yancey and am currently studying with Joshua Ranz, a member of the prestigious Pacific Symphony.

Bible Studies

I have been a Christian all of my life! I love studying God's word and learning all I can from it! I have taken four years of bible classes at Linfield Christian High School. I have also been involved in a church youth leadership team for 5 years. I am currently studying the Bible through the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University. I would love to encourage you or your student with the Living Word of God!

Sign Language

I have four years of American Sign Language at Linfield Christian High School and 2 years involvement in a choral sign program. Sign language is a fun and complex language! It is very difficult to learn on your own and can be learned incorrectly through the Internet.
