I am a well trained and experienced scientist and educator. I checked expertise in diverse areas, psychology, physiology, statistics, biostatistics, and SPSS. Let me explain this diversity. My Ph.D. is in psychology with an emphasis in physiological psychology. Most psychologists also receive extensive train in statistics as part of their training. I extended this training to learn more statistics for analyzing the data collected in my research. I have 24 years of experience in research (psychophysiology), research methodology, and performing statistical analyses. During this time I taught courses in these areas, but, what is more important, I served as a mentor. I thus also work well in a one-on-one learning experience with the student.

Microsoft Excel

I have worked with spreadsheets since visicalc was introduced. Through my career I used them in many ways (i.e., data entry, managing household budget, simple data analysis, graphing of data). Setting up Excel files to maximize their use is my strongest area.

Microsoft Word

Word processing is the most basic of all computer applications. Microsoft Word has become the de facto application for all business. While it is easy to learn, there are many features that are easy to incorporate that simplify and improve the look of any document. I bring my expertise of working with MS Word for over 25 years.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I began using PowerPoint with its introduction in the mid 1990s. I developed the skills to us this program to make succinct presentations. I have also learned to use it for giving poster presentations.

Statistics

I bring 30 years of research experience to my knowledge of statistics. This results in a more practical understanding of the area. During this tenure, I mentored “students” from many walks of life and disciplines allowing them to become facile users of statistics in their education or profession.

While I used many statistical applications, SPSS is my primary data analysis tool.

SPSS

Through my 30 year research career, SPSS was my primary data analysis too. Because of my beginning days I am knowledgable in the syntax to streamline analyses to get specifically what is wanted in the output. I will work with you to gain this knowledge and how to make sure you data are accurate.

Biostatistics

Biostatistics is the application of statistics to biological/medical domains. The work of Sir Ronald Fisher who developed many of the variation of the ANOVA applied his work primarily in botany (agriculture) thus was biostatistics. Today, biostatistics is usually thought of as applying to medical data such as clinical trials or epidemiology.

In my career, I used biostatistics. My last position was the biostatistician for San Diego Hospice and Institute for Palliative Medicine.
