Hello students!
My name is Virgil. I have been a teacher since I was 17 starting with cross-age tutoring elementary school children and since then my life has revolved around education to my ripe old age of 34. I received my Teaching Credential in Art, with a supplemental in Japanese in 2004 and became an Art teacher in the Sweetwater Union High School District. From there, I earned my Master's Degree in Educational Technology which extends my teaching skills from secondary education to adult learning and received my certification in Interactive Multimedia. My deep passion is learning and helping those who want to learn. We are given many opportunities, but sometimes never quite sure where to start and I believe this is where we start our journey together of endless potential.
I have lived an interesting life. I taught martial arts for 15 years and was an Anime comic book artist for Sypher Art Studios in the mid 90s. Being in the comic book industry was a great learning experience because you meet a variety of personalities and you learn from the people you encounter. I was able to live in Japan on a student exchange program for a year and use Japanese at a whole different level. One of the best experiences of my life! Around the time I was working as an Art teacher, I started training to become a professional wrestler. I've always loved pro wrestling when I was a kid and when the opportunity came to become a pro wrestler, I took it. My prior martial arts experience helped me become a very prolific wrestler, but I am retired now. However, my history of being a pro wrestler has connected me stronger to my younger students because they always have questions. Now, I am a singer in a band.
And what do these things have in common? These are all things I learned in school. I took advantage of the programs that school provides and turned them into productive aspects of my life. And you can too!
My expertise falls under art, graphic design, Flash animation, Actionscript, website development, and video editing. So if you are looking for skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash, I'm your man. But I am also very good at traditional art such as drawing and painting.
Most of my students that I have tutored in the past, I have done as one-on-one sessions because there's no better result than having a teacher to help you for your needs. I am a very warm and enthusiastic teacher and I believe applying things in your everyday life is what makes things easier to understand. I have also worked at San Diego State University tutoring adults in website development, so if you are an adult that's not a problem. If you are really interested in me, but you are not local, we can work something out. I have many ways of doing distance learning, but it all depends on what you're needs are.
Feel free to ask me any questions because I am always willing to help. Thank you for reading and hope to work with you in the future. Study hard because the results are rewarding!
Sincerely,
Virgil
