For the past 20 years, I have been both a volunteer and paid tutor for students from grades 1-12+. I have worked in the schools, as a volunteer reading and math aide. As a self-employed tutor, I have worked with both college and elementary students. My primary areas of interest are reading and science. I am also proficient in helping students learn study skills that will work for them. I often go to their homes and help them set up an area that is conducive to learning.
Besides my own adult children with autism, I have had experience helping many youngsters with special needs. This includes children with Angelman Syndrome, ADHD, Tourette's Syndrome, Aspergers and more. I am a patient, positive tutor who seeks to bring out the individual child's strengths. The last young man that I tutored was 12 years old and has Angelman Syndrome. At the final school assembly, he was awarded a certificate for Most Improved Academic Achievement. His family has since moved out of state.
