***From June 2013 through November 2013, I will only be available for online tutoring.***
Math Education Experience: I have received one year of teacher training in UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies Teacher Education Program (TEP). Through TEP, I have had the opportunity to teach mathematics in an LAUSD high school. I have used visual manipulatives to teach students arithmetic and geometric series, and I even had a lesson plan employing earthquakes and their Richter scale magnitudes in order to teach and show a real-life application of logarithms. My goal is to make math meaningful to students.
Elementary Phonics Education Experience: I have a year of experience in tutoring K-8 children one-on-one and in small groups of less than 5 students. I spent a year in Korea, starting ground up with grade school children who had very limited knowledge of the English alphabet and getting to see them able to sound out words and read books.
Other Information: In middle school, I was the concert band's first chair flutist, and also the flute section leader of the GUSD Honors Orchestra in the 8th grade. As for high school, some of my school activities included orchestra, four years of varsity swim, and two years of varsity volleyball. I took four years of Spanish and received an 800 on the Spanish SATII. In college, when I wasn't studying math, I enjoyed dabbling in Armenian, music history, and linguistics.
