Vocabulary

Vocabulary is a living thing: people continually modify the language they use to communicate their ideas. A strong vocabulary makes communication flexible, lively, and fun! I hold an English degree and love the expression of language. I think it's important to have an arsenal of words and phrases to better express yourself in various life situations.

Grammar

I am well practiced in grammar and able to quickly spot errors. I like to read and write and am a lifetime student of the English language. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English.

Reading

I love to read as a hobby, but it's also something I've used as a tool in school and work. As an English student I have been trained to pick out relevant information from written references. I know how to skim passages for what is needed. I am also good at researching subjects.

Writing

I have written quite a few essays and research papers. I have a degree in English; before college I was a consistent Honors English student. I enjoy the craft of writing and see it as a valuable and versatile tool.

Proofreading

Spelling

As someone who enjoys reading and writing, and a student of English, I'm good at spelling. I can spot errors easily. I know the rules of the language, and also the exceptions to the rules, of spelling. This is an important area of study: a written work with spelling mistakes won't be taken seriously.

Elementary Math

I have completed math courses in school and college up through Algebra 2. I recently revisited basic mathematics, geometry, and algebra in order to pass the CBEST examination. As an assistant teacher at a private school I have given math lessons to grade school students, and graded math tests.

Elementary (K-6th)

Currently assist teachers or substitute teach at St. Alphonsus School in Monterey Park in third and fourth grade classes.

Poker

Learned to play about 25 years ago. Familiar with hand ranks and probabilities. Understand bluffing. Familiar with draw, stud, and hold-em. No tournament experience.

Trumpet

Played 4 years in grade school. First chair in All-City Orchestra. Third chair previous year. Two years marching band experience. Received private jazz and classical lessons as Pasadena City College. Can read music.

CBEST

I passed the three categories (reading comprehension, mathematics, and writing) of the CBEST exam in April 2011. Before taking the test I studied the required material and completed multiple practice exams. Upon completion of the CBEST I applied for and received a permit to substitute teach in California. I feel well-versed in the CBEST examination and know I can help others pass it in all categories.
