My name is Brandon and I'm a fourth year Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. While my work consists of developing mathematical models and software for simulating chemical systems that have uses in solar cells and light-emitting diodes, my real passion lies in sharing my knowledge through education.

I have been teaching in some form since high school including (but not limited to) private tutoring, at enrichment centers, academic workshops and at the collegiate level. My primary background is in chemistry but I have strong secondary backgrounds in mathematics and biology. I have an artistic soul and am comfortable using unusual teaching techniques to inspire students.

I am an eloquent scientific communicator and feel most effective in one-on-one or small group settings; I find satisfaction in being able to directly address the needs and concerns of my student. I am willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure my students gain the skills they need to succeed.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Organic Chemistry

While I am a theoretical (computational) chemist by day, most of my formal chemistry training is in a lab doing organic synthesis. I no longer work in a conventional lab but still work with organic compounds on a daily basis. I have a deep understanding of reaction mechanisms, reactivity and electronic structure.
